Continuing to deliver on its bold statement that it intends to become the "go to" firm for all aspects of shipping, maritime trade and oil and gas legal work, Campbell Johnston Clark (CJC) is opening an office in Newcastle upon Tyne on the second anniversary of the opening of its London HQ. Initially, the Newcastle office will be headed by shipping finance specialist Finlay Lockie and senior litigation associate Allen Marks (previously with Mills & Co Newcastle). In addition to an active recruitment programme, the office will be supported by regular visits from CJC’s London team.
Allen's practice covers the full range of shipping litigation and arbitration. He is recognised in the leading legal directories and brings to CJC an existing and established client base. Finlay was previously a partner at a major maritime legal practice and, prior to joining CJC, founded a shipping company. He has a rare combination of experience in legal practice and commercial management.
Julian Clark, founding partner of CJC, commented "This is a project that we had in mind from the outset. Newcastle is a maritime centre that has to be taken seriously due to the presence of the North of England P&I Association, Sunderland Marine and a number of the biggest names in shipping including Maersk and Bernhard Schulte, not to mention the established Newcastle ship-owners such as Stephenson Clarke. It also provides an excellent northern base for the development of our Scottish offshore oil and gas practice."
Andy Taylor, Claims Manager at the North of England P&I, commented "We are very happy to see one of the London firms establishing itself in Newcastle in recognition of the important part which Newcastle now plays to the maritime service industry worldwide".
Campbell Johnston Clark was founded in September 2010. The firm now has 5 partners and 20 other fees earners and support staff. CJC specialises in all areas of shipping from shipping finance to every aspect of maritime trade, dispute resolution and casualty handling.
